The Inquisition
The Hammer of the Emperor
The Inquisition exists to protect humanity from threats too subtle, too profound, or too politically dangerous for the conventional arms of the Imperium to address. They answer to no Chapter Master, no planetary governor, no High Lord of Terra — only to the Emperor Himself, whose authority they carry like a brand. An Inquisitor's writ supersedes all others. Their judgment is final.
They are watchers, judges, and executioners. They move in shadow, their very existence an open secret that no one dares acknowledge too loudly. A word from an Inquisitor can doom a world. A signature can condemn a dynasty. Their existence is the Imperium's darkest promise: no one is safe. No one is above scrutiny. No one is exempt.
The Three Ordos
The Malleus hunts daemons, the corrupted forces of Chaos, and the forbidden knowledge that surrounds them. They alone are sanctioned to wield the weapons that can kill what cannot be killed by normal means. Their methods would be called heretical — if anyone were permitted to know what those methods are.
The Xenos catalogues, quarantines, and destroys alien threats to humanity. They oversee the Deathwatch Space Marines — the Kill-Teams drawn from every Chapter, trained for alien contact and annihilation. Where the alien breathes, the Xenos watches. Where it plots, the Xenos acts.
The Hereticus polices heresy within the Imperium itself. They command the Sisters of Battle and pursue rogue psykers, corrupt Ecclesiarchy figures, and those who bear the taint of mutation. The most feared agents of the Hereticus are the Witch Hunters: individuals who make it their life's work to find what cannot be found.
Notable Inquisitors
- Ordo Xenos — Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn Puritan-turned-radical. Three centuries of service, countless heresies suppressed, one question never answered: at what cost?
- Ordo Xenos — Inquisitor Gideon Ravenor Crippled by daemonic attack. The most formidable psychic mind in living Inquisitorial memory — and the most quietly terrifying.
- Ordo Hereticus — Inquisitor Lord Torquemada Coteaz Supreme Hunter. Grand Master of the Inquisitorial conclaves on Titan. He has condemned more worlds than most Inquisitors ever visit.
The Price of Vigilance
The Inquisition has condemned entire star systems to Exterminatus — the total destruction of all life on a world — when the alternative was allowing corruption to spread. They have purged loyal Space Marine Chapters. They have burned pilgrimage sites the Ecclesiarchy held sacred for millennia. They have done these things because the alternative was worse. The Imperium does not thank them for this. It does not need to.
A faithful servant may live their whole life unaware they were observed, assessed, and cleared. That is the Inquisition at its finest: invisible, thorough, and absolute. The guilty do not get second chances. There are only the faithful, and those who have not yet been found.
“Even a man who has nothing can still offer his life.”
